A WAY TO RELIEVE STRESS AND CEREBRAL TENSION

BHRAMARI PRANAYAMA (Humming bee breath) :-

वेगादघोषं पूरकं – भृंगनादं -भृंगीनादम् रेचकं मंदमदम्।
योगींद्राणामेवमभ्यासयोगाच्चिते जाता काचिदानंदरलीला।।

Breathing in quickly, making a sound like the male black bee and exhale slowly while softly making the sound of the female black bee. By this Yogic practice the mind is absorbed in bliss.

This is Bhramari – ‘The Humming Bee’ Pranayama. Black bee is called as Bhramar in Sanskrit. In this particular Pranayam, the breath produces peculiar humming sound, thus called as Bhramri Pranayam.

Benefits: Bhramari relieves stress and cerebral tension, alleviates anger, anxiety and reduces blood pressure. It also improves sleep and speeds up post-operative healing of body tissue. It strengthens and improves the voice and eliminates throat ailments.

Limitations: Bhramari should not be performed while lying down, people suffering from severe ear infections should not practise this. Persons with heart disease must practice without breath retention.
